The Makers of FDR®

This table shows, for each current release of z/OS, the minimum levels of each Innovation product that should be installed. Use the table when upgrading your z/OS system, to verify that you have the correct Innovation software in use. If not, you should install the latest version. If you already are using the indicated minimum level, you may wish to install the latest version anyway in conjunction with the Operating System upgrade.  All versions are downward compatible, so you can install the latest level of Innovation products with older levels of MVS (see notes for exceptions for the UPSTREAM for z/OS and IAM products).  Please review the Product Notes that follow the table for fixes that may be required depending on the hardware and software in use at your installation.

To obtain any of the fixes mentioned on this page, click here. See document FTP Access for detailed information on accessing Innovation maintenance.

NOTE: While prior versions might still work, the versions listed below are the minimum supported versions.

Review all the “Product Notes” following this table for compatibility issues with specific
releases of the Innovation products and the operating system.

FDR PRODUCT NOTES
  1. Support for z/OS 2.2: Requires ZAP P54.8155 for FDR Version 5.4L80. For FDR Version 5.4L83, you require ZAP P54.8326 or FDR Version 5.4L83 SPIN3.

  2. ABR users of z/OS 2.2 should install ZAP P54.8156 for ABR Version 5.4L80. For ABR Version 5.4L83, you require ZAP P54.8328 or ABR Version 5.4L83 SPIN3.

  3. EMC VMAX3 users who are licensed for FDRINSTANT need to install FDR Version 5.4L85 or higher.

  4. *FDR users of z/OS 2.3 whose installations have 8-character TSO userids need to install Version 5.4L87.

  5. *ABR and FDRREORG users of z/OS 2.3 need to install Version 5.4L87.

  6. Support for data set encryption by the access methods (also called "pervasive encryption"): This feature is included in z/OS 2.3, and is available for z/OS 2.2 and partially for z/OS 2.1 by installing the PTFs for APAR OA50569 and associated APARs. If you use this feature, you must install Version 5.4L87 SPIN 2 or higher, or ZAP P-54.8712 for Version 5.4L87 SPIN 0 or SPIN 1.

  7. SAR Support for z14 Processor SAR (Stand Alone Restore) is the component of the FDR system that runs directly in an LPAR, for use when no operating system is available. It can be used to restore the initial disk volumes at a cold disaster recovery site, or at a new data center. SAR has supported all architectures from S/360 through ESA/390. Up until now, SAR has run on IBM Z in ESA/390 mode. The new IBM z14 processor does not support ESA/390 mode. Therefore, to run SAR on the z14, you must use a new level of SAR. This new level of SAR is included in Version 5.4L87 SPIN 3 and higher.
FDRPAS/FDRMOVE/FDRERASE PRODUCT NOTES
  1. FDRPAS Users should review the link below for any IBM PTF's that need to be installed prior to using FDRPAS.
Click Here for IBM and ThirdParty Maintenance Requirements

  2. Support for z/OS 2.2: Requires ZAP P54.8155 for FDRPAS Version 5.4L80. For FDRPAS Version 5.4L83, you require ZAP P54.8326 or FDRPAS Version 5.4L83 SPIN3.

  3. EMC VMAX3 users need to install FDRPAS/FDRMOVE/FDRERASE Version 5.4L85 or higher.

  4. **FDRPAS and FDRMOVE users of z/OS 2.3 whose installations use the Dynamic Allocation exit (FDR0009I, described in section 380.19 of the manual) need to install Version 5.4L87.

FDRPAS users of z/OS 2.3 whose installations use 8-character TSO userids need to install Version 5.4L87.

  5. Support for data set encryption by the access methods (also called "pervasive encryption"):
This feature is included in z/OS 2.3, and is available for z/OS 2.2 and partially for z/OS 2.1 by installing the PTFs for APAR OA50569 and associated APARs. For FDRMOVE, if you use this feature, you must install Version 5.4L87 SPIN2 or higher, or ZAP P-54.8712 for Version 5.4L87 SPIN 0 or SPIN 1.
This feature does not affect FDRPAS or FDRERASE.
FDRSOS PRODUCT NOTES
  1. FDRSOS support for IBM requires a DS8700 or DS8800 with the IBM no cost feature called z/OS Distributed Data Backup (zDDB).
Click Here for Ordering instructions of IBM zDDB

  2. EMC VMAX3 users need to install FDRSOS Version 5.4L85 or higher.

FATS/FATAR/FATSCOPY PRODUCT NOTES
  1. No specific product notes at this time for FATS/FATAR/FATSCOPY

IAM PRODUCT NOTES
  1. The minimum requirements for running IAM Version 9.1 are a z/OS operating system and a z/Architecture processor. IAM Version 9.1 utilizes various functions and features only available in z/OS operating systems and instructions available only on processors that support z/Architecture. Due to a quad-word alignment required with the 64-bit support, the IAM load library requires and is distributed as a PDSE with a block size of 32760. IAM users not meeting those requirements can continue to utilize IAM Version 8.1. It is recommended that you request IAM 8.1 Level 19.

  2. Support for CICS TS V5.2 CICS TS V5.2 requires IAM 9.1/01 Spin Level 08 (Released August 22, 2014) or apply ZAP P91.0087 to IAM Version 9.1.

  3. Support for CICS TS V5.3 Requires ZAP P91.0147 for IAM Version 9.1 and ZAP P92.0056 for IAM Version 9.2.

  4. Support for z/OS 2.2 requires ZAP P91.0127 for IAM Version 9.1.
For IAM Version 9.2 requires ZAP P92.0037 or IAM 9.2 Spin 4.

  5. IAM users of z/OS 2.3 need to install Version 9.3/01 Spin 1 which was GA as of March 27th 2017. 9.3/01 Spin 1 is required due to control block changes IBM made in z/OS 2.3 in support of load modules and entry points residing in above the bar storage that required 64-bit address fields in addition to the existing 32-bit fields. NOTE: You cannot upgrade from 9.3/01 SPIN 0 to 9.3/01 SPIN 1 with just ZAPS. Support for z/OS 2.3 requires installing 9.3/01 SPIN 1 or higher.

  6. Support for CICS TS V5.4 Requires IAM Version 9.2 SPIN 5 or higher plus ZAP P92.0114 or Version 9.2 Spin Level 0 to 4 and ZAP P92.0056 and ZAP p92.0114. Prior versions of IAM are not supported with CICS TS V5.4

UPSTREAM for z/OS PRODUCT NOTES
  1. Support for z/OS 2.2: Requires ZAP P38.0021 for UPSTREAM Version 3.8. For UPSTREAM Version 3.9, you require ZAP P39.0004.
