Latest Product Release Information

This table shows, for each current release of z/OS, the minimum levels of each Innovation product that should be installed. Use the table when upgrading your z/OS system, to verify that you have the correct Innovation software in use. If not, you should install the latest version. If you already are using the indicated minimum level, you may wish to install the latest version anyway in conjunction with the Operating System upgrade.  All versions are downward compatible, so you can install the latest level of Innovation products with older levels of MVS (see notes for exceptions for the UPSTREAM MVS and IAM products).  Please review the Product Notes that follow the table for fixes that may be required depending on the hardware and software in use at your installation.

To obtain any of the fixes mentioned on this page, click on FTP Login, and enter your access code on the FTP Login page. If you don't have an access code, you can obtain one by clicking on Register for FTP Site Access on the FTP Login page. Within the FTP site, go to the directory Public/Download, and then FDR_V54 for FDR V5.4 fixes, or the appropriate directory for fixes for other products.

NOTE: While prior versions might still work, the versions listed below are the minimum supported versions.

* Review all the “Product Notes” following this table for compatibility issues with specific release of the Innovation products and the operating system.

DST - DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME CONSIDERATIONS

For Innovation's UPSTREAM products (which include components on the mainframe and on PCs and Open Systems), this page will contain the latest information on DST2007 impact on those products:

http://www.innovationdp.fdr.com/daylightsavings/

For all of Innovation's mainframe products, including:

  • FDR, FDREPORT and FDRABR
  • FDRPAS and FDRERASE
  • FATS, FATAR and FATSCOPY
  • IAM

You may need to apply additional fixes to Innovation products for particular situations as shown in the notes below. If your level of the indicated product is at or above the level indicated as “included in Vx.x/ll” then you already have the fix. If not, you can download and apply the fix, or install a higher version of the product.

FDR PRODUCT NOTES

  1. ABR users on z/OS 1.7 or 1.8: you must install the fixes for these IBM APARs to solve a problem where ABR data set backup records may be lost:
              OA17290   OA17365   OA17370

  2. COMPAKTOR users: If you are running z/OS 1.7 or higher, insure that you are running at least 5.4 L50 or higher and that previous versions have been deleted from all libraries on your system. See the link below for the severity of the problem if an older version is used.

    http://www.innovationdp.fdr.com/newsviaemail/fdrpas/020706.cfm

  3. If you are running z/OS 1.8 or higher and you are using new PDSE features PDSE_BUFFER_BEYOND_CLOSE(YES) and/or PDSE1_BUFFER_BEYOND_CLOSE(YES), see link below.

    http://www.innovationdp.fdr.com/newsviaemail/nve_09062007.cfm

    a. Update to September 6th, 2007 bulletin. If you are z/OS 1.6 or 1.7 and apply IBM APAR OA15092 you will need to apply the fix P54.5600 or upgrade to Version 5.4 L61 or higher.

  4. FDR SUPPORT FOR EAV: With z/OS 1.10 and higher IBM supports volumes that are larger than 54GB's. These volumes are called extended address volume (EAV). EAV support requires 5.4L70 or higher.

  5. ABR users who install z/OS 1.12 must install 5.4/73 or higher because of changes required to FDRPRE00 (the ABR scratch exit).
FDRINSTANT PRODUCT NOTES
  1. FDRINSTANT users that upgrade to EMC microcode level 5x73 must upgrade FDR
to Version 5.4 L68 or higher.

  2. FDRINSTANT support for EMC Symmetrix V-MAX DASD requires version 5.4 L70 or higher.
FDRPAS/FDRMOVE/FDRERASE PRODUCT NOTES
  1. FDRPAS SUPPORT FOR EAV: With z/OS 1.10 and higher IBM supports volumes that are larger than 54GB's. These volumes are called extended address volume (EAV). EAV support requires 5.4L70 or higher.

  2. FDRPAS Users should review the link below for any IBM PTF's that need to be installed prior to using FDRPAS.

    http://www.innovationdp.fdr.com/newsviaemail/nve_09152009.cfm

  3. FDRPAS and FDRMOVE and FDRERASE for z/OS support for EMC Symmetrix V-MAX DASD requires version 5.4 L70 or higher.
FDRSOS PRODUCT NOTES
  1. FDRSOS TimeFinder/SNAP users that upgrade to EMC microcode level 5x73 must upgrade to FDRSOS version 5.4/68 or higher.

  2. FDRSOS support for EMC Symmetrix V-MAX DASD requires version 5.4 L70 or higher.

  3. FDRSOS support for IBM requires a DS8700 with the IBM no cost feature called z/OS Distributed Data Backup (zDDB).

FATS/FATAR/FATSCOPY PRODUCT NOTES
  1. Use of encrypted TS1130 tapes requires FATS 4.9.15, which will be GA in August 2010, or FATS 4.9.12 with zap P-49.0144.
IAM PRODUCT NOTES
  1. Support for CICS TS 3.2 and CICS TS 4.1. IAM V8.1 Level 11 is the minimum level required for using IAM with CICS TS 3.2. Users will need to be running the IAM VIF at the V8.1/11 level or higher, and must also replace the IAM exits used with IAM RLS under CICS with the updated versions provided with V8.1 level 11 or higher.

  2. The minimum level required for using IAM with CICS TS 4.1 is IAM V8.1 Level 11 with zaps P81.0251 and P81.0253.

  3. Support for LISTCAT LEVEL(). IAM V8.1/11 or higher is required to support the IDCAMS LISTCAT LEVEL() for IAM datasets with the IAMPRINT report for z/OS 1.8 and above due to changes in IDCAMS. Prior versions of IAM supported this function in the prior releases of MVS.

  4. The minimum requirements for running IAM Version 9.0 are a z/OS operating system and a z/Architecture processor. IAM Version 9.0 utilizes various functions and features only available in z/OS operating systems and instructions available only on processors that support z/Architecture. Due to a quad-word alignment required with the 64-bit support, the IAM load library requires and is distributed as a PDSE with a block size of 32760. IAM users not meeting those requirements can continue to utilize IAM Version 8.1. It is recommended that you request IAM 8.1 Level 19.

  5. IAM 8.1 VSAM users who install z/OS 1.11 must also install zap P-81.0250 to avoid an S0C4 ABEND in the IAM ISPF panels.
UPSTREAM MVS PRODUCT NOTES
  1. Customers running OS/390 releases prior to V2.10 (e.g., 2.9, 2.8) cannot upgrade to Upstream/MVS V3.4.0 or higher until they upgrade their Operating System. These OS/390 releases are no longer supported by IBM.

  2. UPSTREAM MVS 3.5.0 customers with install packages created before 04/28/2009 who are upgrading ISPF to version 6.0 (ISPF for z/OS 1.10) require upstream zap P-35.0029 to resolve a compatibility problem in the UPSTREAM dialogs.
