IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR ALL FDR AND FDRPAS CUSTOMERS
All customers of any FDR component who upgrade to z/OS 1.7 MUST install V5.4 level 50 (or above) of FDR.
z/OS 1.7 contains several changes which required major changes in FDR, so FDR V5.4 level 50 is required for
most FDR components when run on z/OS 1.7 or higher. These changes include: update protection for captured
UCBs, changes in VSAM control blocks and large sequential data set support (over 65535 tracks, requested
with DSNTYPE=LARGE).

FASTCPK AND Z/OS 1.7
A serious problem has been discovered if you run a down-level version of FASTCPK (COMPAKTOR) on z/OS 1.7. Any VSAM component which is moved by FASTCPK may become unusable. You will get error message CPK583E REASON=6, indicating a problem with the VVDS, yet COMPAKTOR will move the VSAM components without updating the extents in their VVRs.
There is no way to recover from this error except to restore the clusters from a recent backup!!
All FASTCPK customers must upgrade to FASTCPK V5.4 level 50 or 51 before installing z/OS 1.7.
Customers not yet on z/OS 1.7 who are running FASTCPK V5.4 level 42 or 43 must install HIPER zap P-54.4240, which will make all
VSAM clusters unmovable if that level is accidentally run on z/OS 1.7. This will prevent FASTCPK from damaging the VSAM clusters
but will severly limit its ability to COMPAKT the volume. The zap is shown below.
Zaps are also available for FASTCPK V5.4 levels 40 and 41 (P-54.4059) and levels 30-32 (P-54.3134). These zaps are available
on the Innovation FTP site.

Although a copy of the P54.4220 zap is included, we recommend that you download the zap from our FTP site to ensure accuracy:
- in your browser, go to: http://www.innovationdp.fdr.com/ftp/ftp.cfm
- enter your access code and click LOGIN (use caps for any letters in your access code)
- click on "Download" and then on "FDR_V54"
- locate the zap file you need (P544240.txt or P544059.txt or P543134.txt) and use your browser to download it.

FDRPAS AND MIDAWS
For FDRPAS customers, a reminder about an issue with FDRPAS and MIDAW support and if you are moving from IBM DASD to non-IBM DASD or vice versa.
MIDAWs are a new channel I/O construct on the new z9-109 processors. The software to enable MIDAWs is in z/OS 1.7 and can also be installed on z/OS 1.6 with PTFs.
If you run FDRPAS V5.4 level 43 or below and one or more of your systems are MIDAW-capable, you run the risk that a volume may be swapped on some systems but not others, which can be a very serious problem.
You must install FDRPAS V5.4 level 50 or 51 before swapping any disks if any of your processors are z9-109 systems with z/OS 1.7.
If you are running z/OS 1.6 with the MIDAW-enabling PTFs installed on a z9-109, zap P-54.4386 can be applied FDRPAS V5.4 levels 42 and 43.
