Starting in the spring of 2007, Daylight Saving Time (DST) start and end dates for the
United States will transition to comply with the Energy Policy Act of 2005. DST dates
in the United States will start three weeks earlier (2:00 A.M. on the second Sunday in
March) and will end one week later (2:00 A.M. on the first Sunday in November).
There are no known issues with UPSTREAM at the file level in any operating system except Windows.
However, for Windows, if the time is manually adjusted for the change, the effect will be
that every NTFS file on the system will appear to have a new modification date and every
file will be backed up at merge time or at incremental time if you are running INCRDB.
Microsoft will be releasing fixes for this in the next several months for all operating
systems from Windows XP SP2 and upwards. This is
discussed in: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/timezone/dst2007.mspx
If you are running Windows XP SP1, Windows 2000 or Windows NT, we strongly recommend that
you follow the instructions for changing your daylight savings time settings as outlined
in a KnowledgeBase article that Microsoft released for a similar problem in
Brazil: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=317211
If you are using an Internet time server, you will still see the clock one hour incorrect
during the newly added 4 weeks as the NTP protocol does not address daylight savings time.
You will only have a problem with UPSTREAM if you manually change your clock. If you do
not manually change your clock, but change your time-zone or daylight savings time settings,
you will not have a problem.
Note that since Microsoft will be releasing fixes which may be automatically applied to
your system, don’t forget to address the time change for other application issues,
including the UPSTREAM Dispatcher scheduler for all other operating systems.
For all operating systems the update/patch needs to be applied for prior to March 11, 2007.
